Kirk]] first encountered them in the 23rd Century and was able to save his ship by bluffing that he was carrying a massive corbomite charge that would destroy both vessels. The First Federation ship [[Yosarius]] under the command of [[Gobot]] saved the [[SS Clydesdale]] from an Orion Raider then Gobot insisted that they remove [[Dr. Janet Cobair]] as Empress of the planet [[Dirt]], which was under First Federation protection. [[Mike Harper]] was able to get Corbair back onto the Clydesdale, and Gobot allowed them to leave in peace, taking with them a bit of First Federation technology that they used to fix the Clydesdale's intermix regulator. Commodore [[Scott Enwright]] gave Mike two new intermix regulators in exchange for the First Federation technology, since it was the first to ever fall into Federation hands.
