			We are aware that the Slugworth ruse only happens in "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" with Gene Wilder and not in the book or the Tim Burton film. Apparently, Rosalyn saw the Wilder version at some point, and it stuck with her.

			The [[USS Anomaly]] returns to Earth for repairs after their run-in with the [[Lucinda]] entity. Newly-assigned First Officer Commander [[Vioxx]] is upset that he and his officers haven’t had any bridge shifts yet, but Captain [[Reginald Bain]] assures him that will happen soon enough. First Bain and Vioxx have to meet with Admiral [[Kristen Larkin]]. In the meantime, Vioxx has his officers observe their Starfleet counterparts. Engineer [[Selex]] tries to interfere in a repair Lieutenant [[Shelly Marsden]] is making, Sub-Lieutenant [[Zantak]] won’t say a word to Ensign [[Yonk]], Sub-Commander [[Remax]] is frustrated that Dr. [[Natalia Kasyov]] is too busy talking to [[Cabral]] to do any science, and Centurion [[Nortal]] nearly comes to blows with Lieutenant [[Gworos]].


			Lieutenant Commander [[Tovar]] tells his girlfriend [[Jamie Torgerson]] about the incident between Nortal and Gworos. She tells him that Nortal brought a play for the ship’s drama group to perform. Tovar tells her that Commander [[Prosak]] sobbed on his shoulder the previous evening because she and her father are no longer speaking. Torgerson jokes that Prosak is making her move. Tovar insists his relationship with Prosak is strictly professional. But even while saying this, he is thinking about Marsden.


			Prosak is depressed about being demoted to executive officer, but Yonk tells her to look on the bright side. Now she’ll have more free time and not have to go to meetings with admirals or do paperwork. Prosak realizes he is right and considers things she could do, including dating.


			Bain and Vioxx meet with Larkin, who tells Vioxx that he and his officers will undergo an orientation to see if they can handle situations the Starfleet way and then they have been invited by Ambassador [[Rorshak]] to a party at the Romulan embassy that evening. Bain, meanwhile, is to go to a career night at James T. Kirk High School in Riverside, Iowa. Not a single student in the graduating class of a school named after one of Starfleet’s greatest heroes is planning to join Starfleet, and Larkin wants Bain to take Tovar and Marsden and see if they can get some students interested. Bain insists on bringing Prosak along as well.


			The Romulan officers are put through a series of simulated encounters in a holodeck in Starfleet Headquarters. Nortal destroys an alien ship trying to make first contact, and Vioxx has them flee from a spatial anomaly. The final simulation involves negotiating with a planetary leader. Vioxx does well and invites the government’s officials to beam up to the ship for dinner. He then orders Nortal to put them in the brig and hold them until they surrender their world to Federation control.


			At the high school, Tovar is distracted watching Marsden as she sets up a holographic generator at their table in the school’s gym. Prosak asks for his help bringing in a crate of padds from their shuttle, since the anti-grav generator is not working. Once outside, Tovar realizes that the anti-grav unit has been put in diagnostic mode and quickly fixes it. He stands up to find Prosak right in front of him. She kisses him.


			At the embassy party, Rorshak introduces Vioxx and his officers to [[Sorel]] of Vulcan. Romulus and Vulcan do not have official diplomatic ties, but occasionally representatives from their worlds will meet at the embassy on Earth. Over the course of the evening, Sorel attempts to convince each of the Romulan officers to spy on Starfleet for the Vulcans. Zantak dumps casserole onto his shoe, Selex says he will only do it if Vioxx approves, Nortal orders him to begone, Remax tells him that the Romulan Empire will destroy the Vulcans, and Vioxx slams Sorel up against a wall and tells him to leave.


			Tovar returns to their table in the gym stunned at what has just happened. Bain, meanwhile, is upset after the Orion Environ Movement representatives bragged that all of the kids at the event would be signing up with them. Once the career night starts, not a single student approaches the Starfleet table. Tovar decides to go get a drink from the refreshment stand. Prosak insists on going with him. After a while, Bain wonders where Tovar is with his tea. Marsden says that Bain didn’t ask for tea and offers to go get one for him. Tovar and Prosak have ducked down a corridor to talk about what happened outside. She explains that Tovar has many admirable traits and that it’s only logical that she’d be attracted to him. He reminds her that he’s in a relationship with Torgerson, but Prosak thinks she might find his offer more intriguing. Tovar says that she can’t logic him out of his relationship and that he was very surprised when she kissed him. Marsden only hears this last part, of course, and storms away with Tovar chasing her.


			Tovar catches up to her in the gym, and, after Tovar quickly hands Bain his tea, Tovar, Marsden, and Prosak wind up in a three-way argument about who kissed who, Tovar’s relationship with Torgerson, and what happened between Tovar and Marsden in the Jefferies tube junction. Marsden tells Tovar that he doesn’t have a clue about what he actually wants and, until he figures it out, to stay away from her. She storms out of the gym. Prosak says that Tovar is not the man she thought he was and leaves as well. Tovar is wrecked after the argument, but it did get the attention of several of the students, who want to know if that sort of thing happens often. Bain hands out padds. A wisp of a girl asks Tovar if Starfleet could teach her how to verbally kick someone’s ass like Marsden just did to him. Tovar says yes and hands her a padd. She leaves but quickly returns with a group of her friends. Bain is pleased that the students are finally interested in Starfleet.


			[[Rosalyn Bain]] is awakened by a comm from Sorel, who is really a Section 31 agent. He tells her that the Romulans joining the Anomaly crew would never work for the Vulcans and asks why she called this particular mission Operation Slugworth. She replies that sometime she will tell him a story about a young boy and a chocolate factory.
