			Picking up where the last story left off, [[Audrey Bain]] tells Lieutenant Commander [[Tovar]] that she believes Vulcan forces will soon be acting against the [[Shakalak]]’s captain, Commander [[Zanex]]. During the earlier attack on the Vulcan frigate, the Shakalak beamed something off of the Vulcan ship. Section 31 believes it is a weapon that can wipe out a planet. Tovar realizes the event was a ploy so Starfleet would be focused on the Neutral Zone allowing a cloaked Romulan ship to get to Earth.


			The [[USS Anomaly]] destroys a Vulcan ship that had entered Federation space in an attempt to destroy “The Voice of Romulus” comm buoy, which constantly broadcast resistance messages into Romulan space. It is the third ship they’ve destroyed today. Admiral [[Kristen Larkin]] comms ordering them to Starbase 228 for a briefing on their next mission.


			Starfleet wants the Anomaly to get access to a network of sensor stations spread throughout the Romulan Empire, so that Starfleet can observe the movements of Vulcan ships. They are to send Commander [[Prosak]] and Lieutenant [[Shelly Marsden]] in a cloaked microshuttle to the sensor station on Gortex Four, just inside Romulan space from the Neutral Zone, while Bain and the Anomaly provide a distraction.


			Tovar tries unsuccessfully to determine which of the Shakalak crewmembers might actually be Vulcans. Audrey tells him to stop and to trust her that she has things under control.


			Prosak and Marsden leave for Gortex Four and arrive at the uninhabited world where they find a small shack containing the Romulan sensor and transmission equipment. Before long, the close quarters and Prosak’s efforts to help prod Marsden into confronting her about sleeping with Tovar.


			Meanwhile, the Anomaly sends several probes and comm buoys into Romulan space, drawing three Vulcan ships to their position. The Anomaly opens fire with a full torpedo spread, blinding the Vulcans long enough for Commander [[Vioxx]] to launch in the [[USS Navigator]] and further pummel the Vulcan ships. Since Larkin has ordered Bain to stop blowing up Vulcan ships, they leave the three ships disabled.


			Prosak tells Marsden that her liaison with Tovar was strictly recreational and that she has no desire for a relationship with him. Marsden says that she would prefer that it never happened at all and that Tovar was on the Anomaly. Prosak says that Marsden cannot take the blame for Tovar’s decisions. Marsden laments that even though she and Tovar want to be with each other, they just can’t seem to get it together. With Marsden’s work complete, they leave Gortex Four having provided Starfleet with eyes into Vulcan ship movements in the Empire.


			Tovar angers Commander Zanex by suggesting that Vulcans have infiltrated his ship. Audrey gets him away from Zanex, but Tovar decides to go check the cargo bay to see what the Shakalak beamed aboard from the Vulcan frigate. He opens the crate with the intent to sabotage it, but it activates. Instead of detonating, though, it materializes twenty heavily armed Vulcan troops.

[[Tovar]] ran off on a Romulan ship to get away from his troubles. But those troubles were nothing compared to the outright calamities facing him now. The fate of the Romulan Empire and the Federation hangs in the balance. The person Tovar needs is Bain. Unfortunately, the one he has is [[Audrey Bain|Audrey]] rather than [[Reginald Bain|Reginald]].
