Constitution Class federation starship, first to bear the name and designation NCC 1701 in conjunction. Served in Starfleet from 2251 to 2285 and was part of the initial 12 ship fleet of heavy cruisers made famous by the exploits of one Captain James T. Kirk although there were earlier vessels to carry the name.
