A crash landing leaves Commander Travis Dillon stranded on an uncharted world while the USS Secondprize heads off to Waystation to celebrate Christmas. Very quickly, Dillon realizes loneliness is the least of his problems.
Summary
On the way back to the USS Secondprize from a meeting of the Starfleet Regulations Advisory Board, Commander Travis Dillon's runabout is caught in a temporal explosion and vanishes. While the Secondprize crew believes that he's been lost, Dillon has actually crash landed on an unpopulated world. It is, however, teeming with dangerous animals, as Dillon painfully learns. The Secondprize continues on to Waystation, where they are scheduled to have a layover for Christmas. After spending several days on the planet (as well as celebrating Christmas alone), Dillon is badly injured during a vicious storm. Dillon is found by Captain Montgomery "Scotty" Scott, who detected Dillon's distress beacon. He takes Dillon to Waystation, which he reaches during the station's Christmas celebration. It turns out he was thrown backward in time as well by the explosion, so he didn't miss Christmas after all. Say it with me now, "Awwwwwwww."

Author's Comments
Yes, it's schmaltzy, but it's a Christmas story. What would you expect? I actually wrote this one while I was in graduate school, well after the other short stories and Star Traks 6. I was missing my college friends, and so...schmaltz.
