Lieutenant Craig Porter has never been lucky with women, but a potential investor in Bradley Dillon's hotel may be about to change all that. She beautiful, she's intelligent, and she's got her sights set on Craig. Some guys have all the luck.

Summary

Lieutenant Sean Russell is concerned about the arrival of Sesil at Waystation Village. Sesil was just released from a penal colony, which he was in for kidnapping some Vulcan officials who didn't agree with his Starshine philosophy. Russell informs Sesil that security will be keeping an eye on him. Sesil is unconcerned. Arriving on the same transport as Sesil is Jaraan, a potential investor in Bradley Dillon's Starfleet Suites Hotel. Bradley could easy fund the project himself, but he would rather spread out the financial risk. And really none of that has anything to do with Lieutenant Craig Porter, who was passing through the docking module on his way to an appointment with Counselor Ray Miller, who he is seeing to deal with his inability to talk to women.

Jaraan takes notice of Porter, and, seeing an opportunity, Bradley introduces her to him. Jaraan immediately asks Porter out to dinner. Surprised, he accepts the offer and is pulled aside by Bradley, who tells him that Bradley will pay for everything and throw in some credits for Porter as long as he shows Jaraan a good time. Before the date, Bradley sends suits and a tailor to Porter's quarters, and then en route he is ambushed by a team of stylists who coif him and give him a bouquet of roses. Porter takes Jaraan to dinner at Victoria's Pub, which goes very well. So well that he ends up spending the night with her.

The next day Porter reports for his duty shift and learns that Bradley has arranged for him to have the day off to spend with Jaraan. She asks to see his favorite holoprograms, and he also tells her about his desire to design ships. Jaraan wants him to leave Starfleet and become her Drulik, which is similar to a husband in Hytellan culture. After much thought, Porter agrees. The next day, Jaraan's ship arrives to take her and Porter back to Hytella. Bradley Dillon, who is in a very good mood since Jaraan agreed to invest in the hotel, is there to see them off as are Porter's friends in the Waystation command crew. Porter boards Jaraan's ship, where she shows him to his quarters...which he will share with her other seven druliks. Porter is an old fashioned guy and tells Jaraan that he wants monogamy, which Jaraan cannot give him. They part on good terms, and Porter leaves the ship, where his friends are there waiting. They'd done a little research into Hytellan culture and were waiting to see how long Porter would stay on board Jaraan's ship once he realized what was happening. Despite his relationship with Jaraan not going the way he had hoped, Porter gains new confidence and tells Counselor Miller a few days later that he has a date.
