Hermes 5
The Hermes 5 was one of several prototype ships built to test the anti-singularity drive developed by Lieutenant Shelly Marsden. As was true for the previous four Hermes and the one after it, the drive failed, and the ship self-destructed. In the case of the Hermes 5, though, the explosives inside the backup computer core did not detonate, and the core landed intact on Carsullis, a pre-industrial Class M world with a level of development roughly equivalent to Medieval Europe. Marsden was sent to retrieve the core, which was now being worshipped and called The Oracle. (Scrap Metal Of The Gods [BG])
