A Trill colony specialist who came aboard the USS Explorer midway through its first year of operation. Commander Conway immediately fell for her and persued her with vigor. She responded by first being his friend ("Symbiotic Relationship" [VEX]) and then punching him squarely in the face ("The Honeymoon's Over" [VEX]). In 2375, she was dropped from an extreme height by a wild bird on a far-flung world and killed, but her symbiont was saved. After spending a brief time inside Commander Conway, and being kidnapped by him, Shar was transferred to a new Trill host, Tyra.
