It's been three months since anyone has seen the Multeks. Have they taken Captain Lisa Beck's advice to heart, or is something more sinister afoot? Do the Multeks even know the meaning of the word sinister?

Summary

Federation President Bradley Dillon has left Waystation to go on a mission into deep space with the USS Explorer.

It has been three months since the Collectors invaded the Multek Enclave. Despite the fact that the Multeks decided at that time to open up to the rest of the galaxy, no one has heard from them. Even Dr. Amedon Nelson has not seen her boyfriend, Frequoq Wuddle. As Captain Lisa Beck is discussing the possibility of Yeoman Tina Jones attending the Starfleet Academy Annex on the station, so that she can become a security officer, a Multek fleet is detected heading toward the station. Beck rushes into Ops just before the Multeks hail the station. It's Frequoq Wuddle. He tells Beck and the Waystation command crew that the Multeks have decided that they want to be the Number One vacation spot in the galaxy. Wuddle needs the Waystation crew to teach the Multeks about the hospitality business, since they have visitors from many species coming through all the time. They also need information on xeno-medicine and combat tactics. Beck agrees, and the Waystation officers split up to help the Multeks. Commander Walter Morales and Lieutenant Commander Craig Porter take the Multek pilots out on maneuvers, Yeoman Jones works with the Multeks from the hospitality industry, Dr. Nelson trains the Multek physicians, and Colonel Martin Lazlo spends a lot of time yelling at the soldiers of the Multek Defense Force.

The Multeks have a lot to learn, but for the most part the training goes well...except for the Multek Defense Force. Lazlo pits his marines against the Multek soldiers in a series of paintball games that grow increasingly hostile before finally spilling out of the marines' training deck and eventually resulting in a rampage through the rest of the station that the Waystation security guards can only stop by stunning all of the combatants...and accidentally blowing up part of the Starfleet Square Mall food court. When they regain consciousness, the marines and the Multeks actually start making friends. Of course, it helps that Lazlo is being held elsewhere and continually shot with paintballs by the Lieutenant Commander Sean Russell and other Waystation security officers for instigating the whole mess.

At Starfleet Command on Earth, Fleet Admiral Nosira Ra'al is talking to Admiral Leelan Fonn. Fonn is making use of one of the perks of his rank: selecting his own command. And the place he wants command of is Waystation.

Author's Comments

After the previous run, which was a bit on the angstier side, I was determined that this run of stories was going to be more fun.

This story marks the first appearance of "The Gravity Well," the Waystation night club, the idea of which was suggested by Tom Jacob on the Star Traks Forum.
