Synopsis
In his own way, Admiral Kirk "requests" that Stone and the crew of the Devonshire travel to the unaligned Scorlaxian system to take part in the Scorlaxian Astro-Derby (SAD) - An inter-system shuttle race held annually by the Scorlaxian's and regularly attended by all the major powers in the Alpha quadrant.
Once enrolled in the race, they discover it's a "win or face the consequences" deal, with the shuttles which do not complete the run being vapourised after their crews had been rescued by the Scorlaxians - the fee for their rescue? Slavery.
