SECTION 10
You select the coordinates for 231815.147 and engage the time drive. The shuttle lifts off of the deck of the docking bay, then everything around you becomes a tunnel of swirling color as the timeship takes you back to your chosen destination.
A short time later, the timeship exits the temporal corridor into space.
At least it should be space.
All you can see ahead of you is what appears to be a massive tunnel with a blaze at the end as bright as a sun.
About the same moment your brain remembers the Doomsday Machine, it has locked onto your ship with some kind of tractor beam and is dragging you in.
There’s no way the engines of the little shuttlecraft can break free of this monster, but maybe you can use the time drive. Yes, Admiral Larkin told you it blew out after every use, but there’s a chance that it didn’t this time. There’s a chance that you could survive.
You frantically punch in a bunch of random coordinates (anywhere is better than here) and try to engage the time drive.
Nope.
It’s dead.
BOOM!
And now, so are you.
