Captain Lisa Beck's plans to take Phillip Harper out for a night on Waystation don't go exactly...um...according to plan.
Summary
When Captain Lisa Beck and Phillip Harper are finally able to arrange their schedules to have a nice night out together, Beck plans to show Harper what Waystation has to offer, starting with a romantic dinner at Dillon's. Meanwhile Bradley Dillon learns that his plans to purchase the OmegaMart chain, a rival to his Dillon's Supply Depots has fallen through thanks to the interference of John Simms, Jr., who swooped in and bought the chain. Dillon interrupts Beck and Harper's dinner in his restaurant, attempting to get the AWN news to bury the story of the OmegaMart purchase and an incident at another Dillon's Supply Depot in exchange for a large ad buy on Harper's network. Harper refuses, and Beck decides they should find somewhere else to eat. They move on to Victoria's Pub, where they are spotted by Commander Walter Morales. Morales, who is jealous of Harper's relationship with Beck, keeps interrupting the couple until Beck again decides that they should find somewhere else to eat. The Andorian Restaurant is packed due to a meeting of the station's Society for Creative Anachronisms group. The couple finally ends up in the holodeck, where Harper takes Beck into a recreation of a Boston jazz club he likes serving food from his favorite Chicago restaurant while a 22nd century jazz group performs. Dinner will be followed by a horse-drawn carriage ride through the French Quarter of New Orleans and then dancing in Paris. Beck steps out briefly to stop a woman who has just robbed Trinkets of Tellar in Starfleet Square Mall, then goes back in to enjoy her date.

Author's Comments
Between The Perfect Getaway and this story, Waystation is involved in the events at the end of the Next Federation Arc.
The Bechodans of Bechode Prime who appear at the beginning of this story first appeared in a Star Traks: Boldly Gone story, The Face Of Things That Went. Although, chronologically, that story takes place well after this one.
